My TY Diary - Maths Week

Week 7

This week was a really normal week.  Nothing much happened. Its maths week so every morning we have a "Maths quote of the day" and a maths riddle, and because of this in maths, we are doing special maths projects. I'm in a group called "Maths Eye". It means our project is about telling people about maths in everyday life with pictures and explanations.  There are two other groups as well, called "Careers in Maths" and "Maths in University". All the groups have to make big posters for each topic and at the end of the week, all the posters will be displayed in the corridor for all the other students in the school to see.

On Tuesday, we had mini company, and our group is ready to buy our material to make our product. I'm really excited and hope that we will sell loads of our product. We hope to be selling in time for Christmas so everybody can buy them for presents.

On Wednesday, I had Work Experience. This week I was doing the same as last week, on the floor making the shelves were full, making sure the prices were on the products and turning all the labels to the front. I was walking around all day and so I was so tired after my shift but I went upstairs with my mum and got a hot - chocolate with cream and marshmallows and then I felt a lot better! We also had a look at the baking section which is my favorite section.

On Thursday, nothing really happened. Double PE wasn't on because our teacher was at Cross-Country so we watched "The Zoo" in stead. I am in the fashion show in November dancing and today we had Hip-Hop practice. I'm not sure when the ballet practice is on but I'm going to do that too! We also got a talk from two TY pupils from last year about different sore of technology things they did last year like set up a radio and this year we are planning on building on that and also going to try doing a Youtube channel!

On Friday, I have Home Ec. and will be sewing my Teddy Bear.

That's all really for this week,

                                    Until next week... Bye

My TY Diary - The Fun Walk!

WEEK 5

Week five of TY and were all doing fine. This week was Bitter- Sweet. It was the fun walk. It happened on Thursday due to heavy rain on the weather forecast and they were right. It just rained and rained all day and night. We were really lucky we did it on the Thursday although it was a bit annoying. It was scheduled for Friday but on Tuesday there was an announcement to tell us that it was on Thursday. This was Tuesday night and we all had work experience all day Wednesday so none of us would be able to meet up. We still had to prepare a dance for the walk and we were all a little worried that it wouldn't come together. In the end it was fine. We learned bits of it on Thursday but it was hard to learn it on Thursday too because the school mass was on in the morning so half of the class had to down to practice singing for it. Fair play to all the girls who gave up their lunch time to come to an empty room to learn it and after the mass we spent a class learning it and doing the whole dance over and over again.

In the end the dance came together really well and the class did so well preforming it but we didn't win. It was announced on Friday morning that class Aurora won. We were all really disappointed because the class put so much effort and time into coming up with the idea and costumes and everything but we still really enjoyed it. Our dance was inspired by our class name Ariel so we did a remix to Under The Sea from The Little Mermaid as well as a few other songs and we all dresses as Flounder, the fish from The Little Mermaid because he is yellow and our colour was yellow.

Nothing else really happened this week. We were all tired on Friday because of the fun walk and we had classes as normal the rest of the days except Wednesday which was work experience day again. Work experience went really well. I was on the floor the whole day this week which was exhausting but I still really enjoyed it. :)

Thats all for this week really!

                 Bye :)

My TY Diary - Baking Muffins!

Week 6

So, just nearly finished my 6th week of TY. Overall, happy with my choice to do it. I have made loads of new friends with people I rarely talked to last year and have loads of more free time. This week was a pretty normal week. Nothing that exciting happened.
On Monday, in careers, we did a Careers Interest test. My results were 1) Creative, 2) Enterprising and 3) Social. This means that I am more suited to jobs that involve making stuff or being creative, A job that involved good leading or persuading someone or a job that involves dealing with people.
On Tuesday we got a french project. I'm with Aoife and our topic is about Tourism in France. It not actually that bad, because only the main words and the verbs have to be in french, not the whole thing. We are probably going to talk about famous french places like the Eiffle Tower or the L'Arche de Triomphe but were also going to talk about beaches or skiing resorts.
On Wednesday we had work experience. This week I was with Paula again doing sort of the same things - sorting out and restocking the shelves. I had a scone for lunch. It was really nice but very filling.
On Thursday nothing really happened. In P.E  we did the beep test. As always it was horrible and I didn't do very well (5.7) but I think I just make it into the average fitness rate for a girl my age which is good.
On Friday we baked in Home Ec. My favourite - vanilla muffins with butter- cream icing. They were really nice but we didn't get to put the icing on until we got home because they were too hot and the icing would have just melted off.
That's all that really happened this week!
Until next week ..... Bye :)

My TY Diary - Work Experience!

 Week 4

This blog marks then end of our forth week in TY. This week has been very nerve-racking and also very enjoyable.

The week started off normally, with normal classes and activities. On Wednesday it was different. We started work experience. I'm sure we were all pretty nervous, starting a new, unfamiliar place for the first time and it was always going to be different but Wednesday was the day we had to face the music and go in. I am working in Avoca's food hall for this 10 week placement (every Wednesday for 10 weeks). I got in early that morning, because it was the first morning and first impressions are important..... I got a lift with Eve, who is also doing her placement there -  but upstairs in the cafe, not the food hall. When I arrived I was given a tour or the floor and kitchen area etc. and was introduced to a few different people. One of them was Margaret. She works on the cheese counter, so for the whole day I helped her. I don't like cheese that much but I have to say, I really enjoyed myself :). After a couple of hours on the cheese counter, I went over to the floor manager, a lady called Paula. She was really nice and gave me a quick briefing about what being floor manager involved. After I finished my job with Paula, I went back over to Margaret for the rest of the day. During the day I wasn't really that tired but when I got home I just collapsed into the sofa for the night. The rest of the week was pretty enjoyable. Everybody talked about their work experience on Thursday and it sounded like everybody enjoyed it - just like myself.

We also baked on Friday. Aoife and I baked Swiss Roll with a chocolate fudge filling. It was really nice but it didn't look great because we left it too long before we started to roll it so it cracked. Taste over appearance any day :)

Anyway, that was this week. Another week over and done with. We are all excited for next week thought because the fun walk is on. Ill tell you about that next week :) Until then ...
                                                                            BYE :)

My TY Diary - Carlingford

This week started of amazingly. We went to Carlingford Adventure Center in co. Louth. We had to wake up really early (6am) to meet at the bus at 7. We left for the two hour journey. After we arrived we were told all about the place and out time table for the two days. We were shown to our room - room 32. It was a big room with eight beds - but there were 9 of us. The girls helped me make a make-shift bed for the night which was surprisingly comfortable. We put down all out bags and got our swimming gear out.

We headed back to the main entrance and were shown over to the beach. We did some warm up exercises - because at this stage, its still only 9am and its absolutely freezing. We went over and got into our wet-suits. Group A went off and did some special kind of kayaking with three boats tied together while we did some canoeing. We canoed over to another little beach at the other side of the lake. We parked our boats (while Aoife and I were pulling ours up on the sand, Aoife fell and we later found out that she had sprained her ankle). On the other beach we played loads of games with our instructors. We got back in out boat and headed back to the hostel.

From 12-1 we ate our lunch. We had sausages and chips with beans, which was lovely and hot. We then went out and suited up in army onsies. We got guns and headed up to the forest. This activity was my favourite. It was called lazor tag. We all had hairbands with sensors and if somebody from the other team shot at you, you lost a life. I thought that this activity was the best. Everybody really enjoyed themselves.

We then went back to the  hostel and relaxed. We were called down for dinner at about 5pm and as soon as we finished we could go anywhere we wanted until 7pm. We all went out to the village. The main street had a few shops and one of them was an old fashioned sweet shop. We went and bought loads of sweets on top of the bags full of sweets we already had. I bought some toxic wastes (really sour sweets) and Sadhbh decided to eat five at the same time. It was so funny she was nearly crying they were so sour. At 7 we went back to meet up with the rest of the group to go out to our final activity of the day.

We all thought it was just a walk because it took so long but then we arrived back at lazor tag forest. We were all handed out blindfolds and we had to put them on. It was dark already so none of us could see what was going on.  We had to hold onto each other and a rope and we were guided through the dark forest. It was kind of scary but fun at the same time.

We went back to the hostel and from the window of our room we say disco lights so we went exploring around the building and found like a games room. There were loads of people from other school sitting down on the sofa. One of our teachers came into the room and we asked her if we could put on music. She put the music into the speaker and we all started to dance. Some of the other school left the room but most of them started to dance too. We went down stairs and got all the other girls from out school and soon everybody was up having a good time. We had to go to bed at like 12 but we all stayed up in our rooms talking and laughing. I think we fell asleep at like 2am that morning.

We got a wake up call at 7 and we all grumpily rolled out of bed. We went down for breakfast and then packed our bags. We went out for more water activities -  the opposite from what we did the day before. We went out on the kayaks that were stuck together to this pontoon in the middle of the water. We had to jump off. The water was freezing. We then had to swim over to this really cool water trampoline. We jumped for a few minutes and them we had to jump off and swim back. We then headed over to another beach and went into this "magical" waterfall in this cave which was apparently from a "hot spring". We all froze and were squished but we were only there for a minute.

We went back and got dry and ate lunch (the same thing)and then headed out for our final activity which was mini obstacles. We did quite a few (and won overall with a score of 12). The first was a maze in the dark we had to crawl through this small dark room to find out way out. We also had to get a ball through a maze, build a bridge over two decks. Get across a pond and guide a marble around an obstacle course using 20cm long pipes. all the activities were really fun but after them we had to head home. Everybody was practically asleep. When I arrived home I fell straight asleep.

school the next day was a challenge (to stay awake) but we all had a great two days and i made so many new friends. the rest of the week went slowly but it is fine.
