My TY Diary - Carlingford

This week started of amazingly. We went to Carlingford Adventure Center in co. Louth. We had to wake up really early (6am) to meet at the bus at 7. We left for the two hour journey. After we arrived we were told all about the place and out time table for the two days. We were shown to our room - room 32. It was a big room with eight beds - but there were 9 of us. The girls helped me make a make-shift bed for the night which was surprisingly comfortable. We put down all out bags and got our swimming gear out.

We headed back to the main entrance and were shown over to the beach. We did some warm up exercises - because at this stage, its still only 9am and its absolutely freezing. We went over and got into our wet-suits. Group A went off and did some special kind of kayaking with three boats tied together while we did some canoeing. We canoed over to another little beach at the other side of the lake. We parked our boats (while Aoife and I were pulling ours up on the sand, Aoife fell and we later found out that she had sprained her ankle). On the other beach we played loads of games with our instructors. We got back in out boat and headed back to the hostel.

From 12-1 we ate our lunch. We had sausages and chips with beans, which was lovely and hot. We then went out and suited up in army onsies. We got guns and headed up to the forest. This activity was my favourite. It was called lazor tag. We all had hairbands with sensors and if somebody from the other team shot at you, you lost a life. I thought that this activity was the best. Everybody really enjoyed themselves.

We then went back to the  hostel and relaxed. We were called down for dinner at about 5pm and as soon as we finished we could go anywhere we wanted until 7pm. We all went out to the village. The main street had a few shops and one of them was an old fashioned sweet shop. We went and bought loads of sweets on top of the bags full of sweets we already had. I bought some toxic wastes (really sour sweets) and Sadhbh decided to eat five at the same time. It was so funny she was nearly crying they were so sour. At 7 we went back to meet up with the rest of the group to go out to our final activity of the day.

We all thought it was just a walk because it took so long but then we arrived back at lazor tag forest. We were all handed out blindfolds and we had to put them on. It was dark already so none of us could see what was going on.  We had to hold onto each other and a rope and we were guided through the dark forest. It was kind of scary but fun at the same time.

We went back to the hostel and from the window of our room we say disco lights so we went exploring around the building and found like a games room. There were loads of people from other school sitting down on the sofa. One of our teachers came into the room and we asked her if we could put on music. She put the music into the speaker and we all started to dance. Some of the other school left the room but most of them started to dance too. We went down stairs and got all the other girls from out school and soon everybody was up having a good time. We had to go to bed at like 12 but we all stayed up in our rooms talking and laughing. I think we fell asleep at like 2am that morning.

We got a wake up call at 7 and we all grumpily rolled out of bed. We went down for breakfast and then packed our bags. We went out for more water activities -  the opposite from what we did the day before. We went out on the kayaks that were stuck together to this pontoon in the middle of the water. We had to jump off. The water was freezing. We then had to swim over to this really cool water trampoline. We jumped for a few minutes and them we had to jump off and swim back. We then headed over to another beach and went into this "magical" waterfall in this cave which was apparently from a "hot spring". We all froze and were squished but we were only there for a minute.

We went back and got dry and ate lunch (the same thing)and then headed out for our final activity which was mini obstacles. We did quite a few (and won overall with a score of 12). The first was a maze in the dark we had to crawl through this small dark room to find out way out. We also had to get a ball through a maze, build a bridge over two decks. Get across a pond and guide a marble around an obstacle course using 20cm long pipes. all the activities were really fun but after them we had to head home. Everybody was practically asleep. When I arrived home I fell straight asleep.

school the next day was a challenge (to stay awake) but we all had a great two days and i made so many new friends. the rest of the week went slowly but it is fine.

My TY Diary - Results

My TY Diary

September 11th

Week 2 of TY and I am loving it! A lot less work than last year anyways. I'm getting used to my class and timetable and the more relaxed atmosphere than last year. This week was a very exciting one. We got our Junior Cert. results back. I'm really happy with my results and just glad its all over!

Tomorrow in Home Ec. were cooking scones, so that should be fun. We also started to make our Teddies too, by cutting out all the templates and pinning them onto our material.

I'm really excited for next week as well, because were going to Carlingford Adventure Centre for the night. Were going to do lots of activities and sports so I cant wait!

Other than that, this week has been normal with the usual classes everyday. My favourite class so far would probably be Mini Company and Home Ec. because I love to bake and mini company is something that I've never done before.

My TY Diary - A New Beginning with Class Ariel!

My TY Diary

September 4th

I have almost finished my first full week of Transition Year. I am really enjoying it so far! I am in class Ariel and I like all the other girls in my class. This year the classes were called after Disney princesses. Ours is named after Ariel from 'The Little Mermaid'. There are two other classes as well, Belle and Aurora.

Yesterday we had these workshops. Three of them. One on etiquette’s, one on being positive (Positive Parties) and one on first aid which I think will come in very useful in the future.

The etiquette workshop was very interesting. We walked up and down a red carpet, firstly with a book on our heads and then with high heels on. I couldn't stop laughing! We got our hand exfoliated and they were soft and smelled really nice.
The second workshop was on being positive and learning how to be happy when you’re sad. It was a bit crazy but hilarious. The woman was called Denise and was really nice. We danced around a bit and did this thing called Laughing Yoga. It was weird but I think everyone had fun doing it.

The final workshop that we did was on first aid. I think this is such an important skill to have as at any time or any place somebody could fall ill and it could end with very serious or fatal consequences. We learned all about CPR and the recovery position and what to do if somebody faints of has a seizure.

Overall I really enjoyed my first week in TY and can’t wait to do more activities and make more friends J!!!
